, johns hopkins hospital. he shot a doctor. jennifer franciotti is live outside johns hopkins with details. what is the latest? >> the gunman has been identified as paul pardus from virginia. he got upset after receiving some medical information about his mother. he pulled out a gun and shot a doctor. that doctor has been identified as dr. david cohen. after the shooting, security called police who responded with a variety of other agencies. they prodded swat teams. pardus was barricaded inside the room with his mother who was confined to a hospital bed. at one point, parts of the hospital were evacuated. police learned something had happened inside the room. they went in to find pardus dead from single gunshot wounds to the head. >> at this point, we're treating this case as a murder suicide. >> as far as dr. cohen is concerned, he suffered a gunshot wound and spent much of the day in surgery. we do not have an update on his condition. we were told his condition is survivable. a lot of people are asking, how could a government get into a hospital with a gun? we will have more answ

came out on top over patricia jessamy. that ends her 15-year run. let's go live to jennifer franciotti with the latest. >> the race has not been officially called, but with 290 precincts in, gregg bernstein leads the race by 1421 votes. this is for the democratic primary. patricia jessamy supporters were feeling pretty good tuesday night. they were keeping a positive attitude about the race. she showed up to thank everyone and said she was feeling confident about the race. the bernstein campaign was cautiously optimistic about tuesday's results. poll workers spent the day at the precinct. they took the day off to support bernstein. bernstein talked a little about why he thinks he was able to make such headway. >> it came to the level of frustration people were feeling about living in one of america's most dangerous cities. i do not know if it is a question of what patricia jessamy did or did not do. >> it is important to note these numbers are unofficial. the bernstein campaign has 49% of the vote while the jessamy campaign has 47% of the vote. reporting live, jennifer franc

busy on the scene of a fire in north baltimore. >> it started at 2:30 a.m. jennifer franciotti live on the scene this morning. bring us up to date. >> if you're traveling this way, falls road is shut down at northern parkway because this fire happened on a northern parkway address as you take falls road south toward the city. there's a side road parallel to northern parkway. 2 1/2-story building caught fire. inside six people, four women a grandfather and a 10-year-old boy. one of the victims say this fire started in a second-floor building and a 57-year-old grandmother was forced to jump from an atic and suffered injuries to her legs. two other women had to jump from the second floor as flames were shooting out the windows. one victim describes how it happens. >> i was so scared of the jumping asal perfect and it took me a minute and i was on the phone with 911 then i heard the boards starting to crack and crack and crack, so i had to jump. >> be so terrifying. that was christine who also told us one of the factors, her hair was being sinaged by the fire, and she could feel the fir
